Former Dougherty High School standout has returned to his Alma Mater to serve as Interim Head Coach. Joyner was hired by the Dougherty County School Board of Education days before the cross-town rivalry game against the Westover Patriots.

A 1999 graduate, Joyner was a two-sport athlete at Dougherty High School, starring in football and basketball. He led the Trojans to the 1998 GHSA Class AAA football state title as the quarterback. His athletic prowess earned him athletic scholarships to Troy State University in Troy, Alabama then later Albany State University, Albany, Georgia. During his collegiate career, Joyner experienced his greatest success as a player on the field at Albany State University, where he led the team, as quarterback, to numerous victories, including a 52-30 victory over Fayetteville State in the 2003 Pioneer Bowl, the 2003 and 2004 SIAC Championship title. Additionally in 2004, Joyner’s team finished the regular season 11-0 and had the deepest playoff run when the Albany State University Rams appeared in the national quarterfinals and were named Black College Football National Champions.

Additionally, Joyner has had tremendous experience in coaching on both the high school and collegiate levels. In 2007 he began his coaching career as the Offensive Coordinator at Dougherty Comprehensive High School. In 2009 he served as the quarterbacks coach at Albany State University and later the Offensive Coordinator (2011-2012), where he successfully coached and mentored the SIAC’s 2010 Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the Year, Stanley Jennings, as he led ASU to the SBN and SIAC championships. In his most recent years, Joyner served as Offensive Coordinator at Carver-Columbus High School in Columbus, Georgia (2017-2021) and was named the 2021 Offensive Coordinator of the Year - Class AAAA.

Coach Joyner is married to his college sweetheart V’Ashley Floyd Joyner. They are the proud parents of two sons, Micah (12) and Major (6).
